LAPD detective Harry Bosch is charged, four years after the fact, with the murder of Norman Church. Although Norman was strongly linked to murders committed by a killer named The Dollmaker, his widow is pressing charges against Harry for police misconduct. However, shortly before Harry's trial is scheduled to start, a body with signs of The Dollmaker's involvement turns up, raising countless questions for Harry and his fellow detectives.
