A story of the connection between generations. Lorna, widowed during the second World War, remarries and raises her daughter in a landscape of bomb-sites and boarded windows. Molly, the daughter, is lead by chance into the life of a wealthy man she cannot love. Ruth, Molly's daughter, eventually leaves her marriage for a journey that takes her back to 1941 and a new resolution of her own history and that of her family.
