The young Jane Austen wishes to be a writer, but her mother thinks otherwise. Although offered many marriage proposals she declines them all, at least until the reckless but engaging Thomas Lefroy enters her life. Initially finding him ignorant and self-centered, her interest grows with time and a love affair begins between the two. However, the families on both sides are strongly against the match. In the heightened emotions of the conflicted relationship, Austen finds herself inspired to write what will become some of her most famous work.
